The Tiny Texas Artist Retreat

This captivating, compact studio cottage is an artist’s dream! Designed as a deluxe studio office or guest cottage, this architecturally inspiring tiny house would make an awesome backyard office, ultimate guest room, a fantastic acupuncture, masseuse, or mini-spa business office, a meditation room or private yoga studio, or artist’s retreat or a truly premium Bed and Breakfast rental. She would also make the perfect little starter cabin getaway or romantic honeymoon cottage for that piece of country land you’ve always wanted!

She has room for all the amenities packed into a very tiny footprint with charming artistic touches. She’s built to last and inspire you at the same time!

Pardon our dust in the Photos! This Studio is in the final phase of construction at our shop. She needs her porches added on (we have a special hinging process that allows them to fold up for transport) and a bit of detail finish work done, and she’s ready to truck on down to your location. You can take her as designed, or you have some room here to specify the design of the lower living area and the upper porch – small balcony or full deck; and the lower front porch – covered porch or full screen porch.

The Tiny Texas Artist’s Retreat Studio is 120 sf. lower living room with a loft area of 80-90 sf.

The one large open lower living/dining/kitchen area, with separate bath area that can be walled off for a shower or not, and left as one open room as a studio, or play room.

She is 10 ft wide by 12 ft long and approximately 14’6″ ft high at roof peak.

She is small enough to be easily transported by truck to your location. She’s under 200 s.f., so she should qualify as a garden or yard shed in most urban areas and not require a permit (please check with your local authorities). She is best suited for warm climates – she’s a southern artiste at heart.

THE INTERIOR

The entry door is Cypress circa 1890′s.

She has 3 large vintage 4 pane wood windows, and two stained glass with a set of casements to the upper balcony and an arts and crafts window in the dormer to the front. The lower floor has has a casement windows on each side, each unique, and when open, they will the whole house down if there is a breeze. The windows span 5 styles and range in age from 50-120 years old.

Her interior walls are clad in Beaded LLP tongue and groove at the top, and 8″ T&G at the bottom, and the side and loft walls are clad in wide plank 5 1/4″ aged varnish, hand stained in tung oil.

The interior ceiling is V-Groove vintage galvanized roofing tin. This is our first time using this medium and we love the feel it gives to the house.

Her flooring is antique tongue and groove 3 1/4″ Long leaf pine from Luling, circa 1900, lovingly hand restored and hand laid. The subflooring and framing are all made of salvaged, vintage 1920′s S2S Long Leaf Pine dimensional lumber – no cheap white-wood from the big box store!

Her loft is a generous 10′ x 9′ and fits a queen, a double or 2 twins bed standard mattress sizes. The ceiling/head height in the loft is 6’1″ ft. Downstairs living area can handle a double sized bed pull out couch.

The loft ladder is handcrafted especially for the studio, and made of long leaf pine with storage area built in.

She has a fantastic romantic “Romeo and Juliette” balcony in the loft area, with a vintage spring green faded painted double window that opens onto a small second story porch perfectly sized for a rooftop garden or a comfy sunbathing lounger and side table. This can be expanded to a growing porch or sundeck.

She is fully plumbed for a toilet, bathroom sink, shower, in addition to a kitchenette sink. No bathroom appliances or fixtures are included; the area is rough plumbed in and ready for your fixtures.

She has a kitchenette area which has electrical and plumbing roughed in; the matching kitchen cabinetry can be included for an additional fee.

She is wired for standard residential electric, with 7 double outlets.

She also has a new ceiling light/fan option wired in and wiring for 1 porch light over each porch.

The planned ceiling lights are salvaged and the porch light is a metal salvaged fixture.

THE EXTERIOR

The Artist Studio’s exterior is clad in vintage T117 siding,(often called novelty, teardrop, or waterfall siding) with an 8′ tall lower wainscot siding crafted of vintage corrugated tin.

Her roof is vintage tin metal panels in a corrugated style from Quincy Missouri area.

She comes with one porch and one balcony porch: one full-length covered front porch (which folds up for transport), and another on the upper loft area in the rear of the cottage. As shown in the photos, the front porch does not show the final vintage turned porch columns only the temporary supports.

OPTIONAL UPGRADES, for an additional fee.

This tiny house is still in construction, and so can still be tailore to fit your exact needs. Here are some options you might add:

• Matching Stair steps up to front porch with handrail can be crafted.

• Full kitchenette finish out, with custom cabinetry and sink. We do not provide the refridgerator or sink fixtures.

• Full bathroom finish out, with side wall, sink and shower and matching custom cabinetry. We can provide bathroom sink fixtures, shower interiors, shower fixtures, built in cabinets, medicine cabinets. We do not supply appliances.

• The upper “Juliette” balcony can be expanded into a larger upper deck (thus creating a larger covered area below; which could also be decked – increasing the balcony to an upper/lower deck of either 8 x 10 or 10 x 10 would create an additonal 160 to 200 s.f. of outdoor living space.

• In addition, either the front or rear porch (if larger upper deck option is selected as above) could be screened in.

• Additional outlets can be added to interior and exterior.
