The El Campo Salvage was a great success! Please see the follow up post and video!
We plan to only have a limited number of people helping and learning how to take down this incredible house and be part of the documentary that will include lectures and instruction on salvaging a house of this size. The Expedition will be filmed so as to help create on-line courses for future Mining Expeditions and training Salvage Miners all around the country. If you want to be in the video and show that it can be done by anyone who wants to do it, please do but if you do not, don’t worry, you can stay out-of-the-way of the lens just as easily.
During the entire event, one should be able to learn how to take down the house, sort, pack, and value the lumber it yields, the doors, windows, and other parts that create a means of making a living as well as building a house for yourself or those you love. This is intended to be enough education in one week to go back home and start a family business that could easily lead to a career in housing others, but more importantly, about teaching others how to create housing for themselves without having to buy any of the materials. For families, like-minded communities, small business oriented entrepreneurs, this opens the doors to breaking free of a cycle that does not reward you based on your efforts and does not give you the opportunity to excel and be rewarded appropriately. The Pure Salvage Living Movement is intended to demonstrate through proving it works, that most people can find what they need both in materials, but also in the means, and methods that will allow you to take charge of your life and then show others how to do the same.
While the cost may seem high to some, the opportunity for a few will be that the buddy discount will come into play. Buy one get to bring your best friend or helper for free. I am also looking at some partial scholarships and discounts for seniors and kids under 25 years old. The cost will include many other opportunities to learn, but also to barter your time for parts and pieces, for Pure Salvage Living dollars, PSL’s that will allow you to convert them to inventory from my vast warehouses or apply toward the seminars we will have next on how to build houses from the parts and pieces saved through this Expedition. The people who participate in the Expeditions will always get the first chance to be in the limited sign-up Salvage Building seminars.
Some Expeditions will include both seminars back to back while others will space them out. We are also planning on having weekend seminars with overnight stays in a nearby 1900 circa big Old House for some of the events ahead at our Gonzales Outpost. This will include taking down a large warehouse and immediately building a house as we go, creating as we destroy, so as to learn on the site house building sequences that will speed up the transition for those who can not wait until the big house is torn down to get a tiny house built. Take part in weekend seminars on portions of the building process, from floors, framing, roofing, and interiors, we will break it down for those who can not get it in all at once, and just an hour away from Austin, San Antonio, and 1 1/2 hour from Houston. Those opportunities should come along by May or June so if you can not come to this event, don’t worry, more are on the way with other ways to cut the costs and stay overnight to make it even easier to get away on a big adventure.
Thank you for being a part of the dialogue and sharing with others what we have done but also what is ahead. I believe that this will be one of the cleanest Salvage jobs most people will ever see and the materials are the cleanest you will likely ever see as far as the minimal rework needed for reuse.
Also, did I mention that the people who are part of the Salvage Expedition will also be the only ones with the opportunity to buy any of the houses that are later built from these materials? Yes, that too is a bonus if you are thinking of it down the road, including the possibility of being able to set it up in the first Pure Salvage Living Village we are already working on now. Lots of opportunity, but only a limited number of slots. Hope we get some great people who are willing to share their stories if they go on to build their own examples of Pure Salvage Built houses later on.
Please watch for more.
